Grab the tissues, Bachelor Nation. It’s time to say goodbye to our dreams of reuniting with Joey Graziadei and Kelsey Anderson on a Golden Bachelorette Hometown Date.

That’s right, folks. The day we’ve been dreading has finally arrived: Joan Vassos sent Mark Anderson home during episode 5 of The Golden Bachelorette. And although he didn’t land a date in his hometown, Joan and host Jesse Palmer ensured Jugo Mobile that Mark is as awesome as he seemed on screen.

“Mark is an extraordinary man. He’s like he’s featured on Joey’s season. What a great father. What a wonderful father he is to all these children. How encouraging he is and how he guided his kids through some really, really tough years. This is exactly that person. He’s just solid,” Joan said Jugo Mobile on Zoom. “He has this really calm, robust demeanor. He’s quite soft-spoken and he’s very calming and easy to be around, especially when you’re doing something so crazy and so intimidating. He was really nice to bring you back to Earth. And he was really easy to talk to – just an easy person to be around.

When Jugo Mobile We spoke to Palmer earlier in the season, discussed the unique opportunity he had to get to know Kelsey’s dad better after she won The Bachelor, and he also sang Mark’s praises.

“The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, and you can see why Kelsey is as amazing as she is. Mark is such a stand-up guy. He’s way too handsome, first of all. Other than that, he’s just a very nice, kind man to live with. He has a lot of experience. He had to overcome a lot in his life,” Palmer said. “He was an extraordinary father and a rock to this family. He has so much to give. It’s easy to see why America is so fascinated by him. Anyone who comes into contact with Mark, or is lucky enough to be with him, can’t help but be amazed by the type of person he is. He is a truly very special man. In the simplest terms, I’ll just put it this way. Very, very special.

Despite the earnest love Joan, Jesse, and her fellow contestants had for Mark, in the end, he just wasn’t Joan’s person. And that’s OK! Joey wasn’t Charity’s person and look how well that turned out!

Bachelor Nation has been enamored with the 57-year-old Army veteran from Leesville, Louisiana since he made his franchise debut on Hometown Week on Joey’s season of The Bachelor. And from the moment Kelsey dropped him off at the mansion, Joan could tell he was a gentle, charming, sensitive man of class. Like Joan, whose husband of 32 years died of pancreatic cancer, Mark lost his wife Denise after a battle with stage 4 breast cancer. The two bonded frequently over their grief and personal experiences while throughout the season.

In episode 2, Mark made smooth moves at Joan and asked her to kiss him in German. Although his team didn’t win the kickball game in Episode 3, he showed off his talent in the StandUp To Cancer benefit show in Episode 4 as a sexy firefighter. In episode 5, the early favorite was the only man who didn’t get a one-on-one date, and just when he was starting to wonder if he was supposed to make the trip, he seeing the sign he needed to continue: a hummingbird that reminded him of his late wife.

Mark ended up landing the last one-on-one date before Hometown Week, and although he and Joan shared great conversations and laughs, she ultimately felt something was missing and sent him home before the rose ceremony. “I feel like you’ve grown so much personally and your heart is getting better, but I didn’t see myself in our conversations while we were talking, and I didn’t feel like I was imagining myself in us,” she said. “I came to this a little too early for you, and I didn’t want to get into a rose ceremony with hometowns on the line and not have a conversation with you first to tell you that I I need someone who is as advanced as possible. in their journey like me.

Mark was understandably disappointed, but he said the experience changed him and he will leave the show “a better human being, a better man and a better father.” After telling his brothers the news, the guys started crying, hugging Mark and telling them how much they loved him. BRB is sobbing!

Who else went home on Golden Bachelorette Episode 5?

Although Mark’s farewell was the biggest of Episode 5, Joan also said goodbye to two other fan favorites ahead of Hometown Week.

First was her first impression, rose winner Keith Gordon, a 62-year-old girl dad from San Jose, Calif., who bonded with Joan over her love of wine and cheese on the beach. Keith charmed Joan from the moment he arrived at the Bachelor Mansion in an old station wagon loaded with luggage. Throughout their time together, Joan said Keith made her feel safe and reminded her of her late husband John. Keith also had a one-on-one date with Joan in episode 5, where he talked about his family and showed a different side of himself, but ultimately Joan had a stronger bond with his Final Four.

The final heartbreaking goodbye of the week was Jonathan Rone, the 61-year-old marine consultant from Oakland, Iowa, who hit it off with Joan during an initial one-on-one. Jonathan may not have won first impressions, but he made a big mark on Joan’s heart when he stepped out of the limo with a blindfold on as a nod to her comments about the feeling of invisibility. He got the prom king crown and the group’s first date happened, had a one-on-one at the start of episode 3 where he opened up to Joan after a horse ride, and he turned heads in Episode 4 as Sergeant Sexy. Before Jonathan left, Joan accompanied him for a very special goodbye and one last heart-to-heart. That’s how you know he was good!

We may have lost three of The Golden Bachelorette’s biggest guys in Episode 5, but hopefully we’ll see them again at The Men Tell All and beyond. In the meantime, read Jugo Mobile’s full recap of Golden Bachelorette Episode 5 and get ready for Hometown Week.

New episodes of The Golden Bachelorette premiere Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m. on ABC with streaming the next day on Hulu.
