Ryan Murphy says he’s surprised and excited that the plot twist for episode 7 of Grotesquerie wasn’t revealed in advance. Better yet, he says there are more twists and turns to come.

Spoilers ahead for the first seven episodes of Grotesquerie.

On Wednesday night, it was revealed during the episode “Unplugged” that Lois Tryon (Niecy Nash-Betts) — the stern detective who was investigating a series of gruesome murders at the hands of a serial killer named Grotesquerie — had J’ I thought about the whole situation in a dream scenario.

Yes, it’s true, everything was imagined.

In reality, it’s Lois who’s been in a coma this whole time – not her husband Marshall (Courtney B. Vance) as we’ve been led to believe. In her sleep, Lois cast those around her as characters in a psychological thriller. In fact, the episode flips the narrative about halfway through after Lois gets into a drunken argument with her daughter Merritt (Raven Goodwin), calls out Eddie (Travis). Kelce) for flirting with her and unmasks Sister Megan (Micaela Diamond) as being complicit in the Grotesquerie murders, aiding the real killer, Father Charlie (Nicholas Alexander Chavez).

The plot twist comes as Lois is fighting Sister Megan for her life when the camera quickly pans and resets the timeline, this time seeing Marshall across a table with Merritt and Eddie. The shot mirrors the opening sequence in which Lois had dinner with Merritt and Eddie where they declared their love for each other and Merritt announced that she had been cast in the fictional reality series she was pursuing in the first six episodes.

The plot twist hinges on a dichotomy, now making Eddie Meritt’s loser husband who has a mullet and works at Cinnabon, rather than the suave hospital nurse we thought he was. Sister Megan is actually the police chief with whom Lois clashed in life, father Charlie is a doctor at the hospital and Nurse Redd is actually Marshall’s mistress who also happens to be a creator of content at OnlyFans.

Talk with The Hollywood Reporter Of Episode 7’s major twist, Murphy — joined by John Landgraf, president of FX Content & FX Production — said that while the reveal about Lois’ liminal claims is important, it’s certainly not the last .

“Yes, there’s a big reveal here in episode seven – and then there’s another one in eight, nine and ten. [the finale]” he told the outlet, adding that they adapted the twists and turns to the weekly release model followed by the series. Episodes 8 and 9 of Grotesquerie are scheduled to be released on Wednesday, October 23, and episode 10 will be released on the 30th. october.

“Coming up, I’m just going to tell you there’s nothing that can be done,” Nash-Betts said. Jugo Mobile THURSDAY. “Expect more twists and turns and a few more turns.”

With three episodes in (and seemingly plenty of twists and turns to come), many are already starting to wonder about the future of the series and whether or not there might be a second season. Murphy and Landgraf told THR that they hope to do more with the cast and crew of Grotesquerie and that it’s just a waiting game to get to the end of Season 1.

“Well, it was designed as a drama series,” Murphy said, referring to his plans for the series not to follow the limited or anthology categorization that many of his other series have followed. “That’s it. It is therefore a multi-year approach.

For his part, Nash-Betts said Jugo Mobile that it’s just as open (and available) if Landgraf and FX are kind enough to greenlight a follow-up season. And if there are more storylines to explore at the end of the first season, sure.

“Yes, I would love to continue,” she said. “I’ve heard some things and so, if we’re lucky, we’ll do another round. And we’ll see what happens.

The first seven episodes of Grotesquerie are now streaming on Hulu. New episodes air on FX on Wednesday nights and stream on Hulu the next day.
